LA's Best After School Enrichment Program

Shenandoah is proud to offer an award-winning after school program. LA's BEST runs Monday through Friday from dismissal time until 5:30 p.m. Recognized as one of the finest after care programs in Los Angeles, LA's Best offers enrichment activities, nutrition, drill team, science program, best fit and sports program. Our Program Coordinator is Ms. Lorraine Harvey.

Given grant guidelines, LA’s BEST is limited to enrolling only those students who are enrolled at the school. Also, we strongly encourage the selection of students who can utilize the full benefits of our services by participating 5 days a week, Monday – Friday from the end of the school day until 5:30 pm. Inability to meet the criterion may result in disenrollment from the program.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES

LA’s Best has four primary registration phases. These phases include:

  1.      Pre-registration
  2.      General registration
  3.      Parent orientation/enrollment
  4.      Establishment of a Wait List. Children are not “accepted” into the program as participants until 1) they have received notification of enrollment; and 2) a parent/guardian has attended an LA’s BEST Orientation and has signed the Parent/Guardian Partnership Agreement. COMPLETED APPLICATIONS DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY GUARANTEE A SPACE IN THE PROGRAM. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. ENROLLMENT IN THE PROGRAM MUST BE BASED ON FUNDING, NOT BY GRADE.

While current LA’s BEST participants are given first priority, pre-registration does not automatically guarantee a space in the program. If the number of pre-registration applications exceeds the number of funded spaces, a pre A PRE-REGISTRAION LOTTERY AND WAITLIST WILL OCCUR.

If you missed your enrollment date a make-up day will be forthcoming.

Youth Services

The Beyond the Bell – Youth Services After-School Program of organized games, enrichment activities, nutrition, physical fitness and homework time is provided for those students capable of independent supervision to, from, and at the playground site. The Beyond the Bell Youth Services After-School Program is not a child care program. It is a permissive program. Students sign-in and leave the program by their own volition. Children are expected to conduct themselves appropriately and may lose the opportunity to participate if their behavior is disruptive. The elementary program is for students in elementary grades (grades 2 through 5/6).

The program operates from the time of school dismissal until 5:30p.m., to better meet the recreational and supervision needs of children, as well as those of working parents. Our Playground Supervisor is Myesha Buchanan. Enrollment for this program is on a first come first serve basis. Enrollment for the next school year 2016-17 will be on the first day of school August 16, 2016.
