My name is Charlene Leyba. I have worked in special education for twenty-five years and have been a special education teacher at Shenandoah Street Elementary School for eighteen years. At the current time, I work with the mild to moderate population, second through fifth grade. I have worked with and taught a variety of individuals with eligibilities which include autism, other health impairment, specific learning disability, processing deficits, ADHD, and defiance disorders. It is imperative for me to motivate, encourage, educate, and make my students competitive with those in the general education population. I make sure that all students are mainstreamed appropriately with their general education peers, as well as have on-going collaborative instruction with Ms. Fried’s third grade classroom, so that all students are able to work together and grow as a learning community.
I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and your children during this school year. It is going to be a year of opportunity, growth, and excitement!
